Do you own a vending machine business? This article is for you.
Coffee machines are now part of our lives. We find them in any city, maybe even in any grocery store. In the larger shops there are even several machines lined up, each one wanting to be chosen for the preparation of the hot drink that invigorates us every morning.
This field has gained traction thanks to the simplification of the way we drink coffee, without the presence of a seller, in an impersonal, fast and automated way.
But can we talk about coffee quality in the field of machines?
You have probably been told many times that cheap coffee and low-quality products are sold in vending machines. As in any field, however, there are quality products and lower quality products. Everything is relative, not absolute. Of course we can also talk about quality in the field of vending machines. You can use an economical coffee for 15 lei/kg or a better one for 40 lei/kg, a milk-flavoured preparation or 100% milk, and the list goes on for each type of product in the machine.
What are the secrets in the field of coffee machines?

You don’t earn much from a customer, but you definitely earn a lot in the long run if the customer chooses you every day. You have to conquer it. How can you do it? The fundamental things are the quality of the products, the functionality of the machine and its hygiene. If you always put yourself in the customer’s shoes, following what they want, success will not escape you. A clean car certainly inspires confidence, and you will run away from a dirty, beat-up and advertising-filled car. If you’ve had an unpleasant experience in the past, paid for a product and the machine didn’t work or you weren’t satisfied with the quality of the drink, you certainly don’t want it to happen again.
If you are not different, you must be economical.
The price of hot drinks at the vending machine is still 1 leu. But this threshold disappears gently, gently. Being profitable in a leu means choosing cheap products. The next threshold means doing something different, offering a different quality, a better product, at a higher price. You can choose to make a larger drink in a cardboard cup with a lid. Or you can use better ingredients, higher quality coffee and supplies. Our advice is to be different, offer a quality alternative and not get stuck in that leu that no longer offers any guarantee.
Be different on a marketing level too. Many merchants use established brands in the industry to gain people’s trust. There is nothing wrong with this as long as you use genuine products, but if everyone uses Lavazza, how will you remain memorable in the customer’s mind? You will remain a simple coffee machine like any other, selling the same coffee in the same cups.
But what would it be like to create your own brand, have the patience to build and promote it, while using a Lavazza coffee to pleasantly surprise your customers? It’s a small difference now, but in the long term it may be the only solution.
We would love to hear your opinion or success story. How have you managed to grow over time and differentiate yourself from those offering a similar product?
