The SCA: Specialty Coffee Association
THE Specialty coffee association (SCA) is the reference organization in the world of coffee, at an international level. The association aims to promote specialty coffee and to guarantee compliance with the numerous qualitative and ethical criteria of the denomination.
It has established a rigorous evaluation system, the Quality score : a coffee must arrive at least 80 points out of 100 to be considered a specialty coffee. These standards guarantee a very high level of coffee quality, total traceability and respect for producers and their methods.
Les Q Graders
But what are the Q evaluators (and the certification of the same name)?
IQ Graders are the experts certified by the SCA which evaluates coffees. Their role is to judge the beans according to different criteria, for example:
- the aroma
- acidity
- the body
- the sweetness
- flavours
- sugar level
