Coffee grinding depending on the preparation method

Coffee is the most popular drink after water. Millions of people around the world start their day with a cup of coffee. We prefer this drink for the energy it gives us and for its aromatic taste.

Contrary to appearances, you don’t need sophisticated appliances or a big budget to make good coffee at home. It is quite simple and economical to prepare excellent coffee in a carafe, if you take into account some tips on how to prepare it or what type of coffee is best.

At first there was coffee in the kettle

The history of coffee begins in the 9th century, in Ethiopia, according to the legend of the shepherd Kaldi who discovered coffee, the fruit of a cherry. From Ethiopia the coffee reaches Turkey, Istanbul and then throughout Europe.

The oldest method of preparing coffee is considered to be the kettle, invented by the Ottomans.

Although it is commonly believed that kettle coffee is simply ordinary coffee brewed in boiling water with added sugar, in reality this type of drink is prepared with a special method in Middle Eastern and European countries such as Turkey, Iran and Greece.

The ibric method takes its name from the small vessel, an ibrik (or cezve), that is used to prepare and serve Turkish coffee.

They used the copper kettle and brewed coffee over low heat or in the sand. The hot sand helps to evenly distribute the temperature across the entire contact surface of the kettle.

Coffee also arrives in our country from Türkiye and still enjoys popularity today, despite the fact that other modern preparation methods have appeared.

It is worth noting that in 2013 the tradition of making Turkish coffee was inscribed in the list of intangible treasures of UNESCO, which only confirms the uniqueness and exceptional character of this centuries-old method.

Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. The taste of coffee varies depending on the individual method and, of course, the coffee used.

If you choose to use the classic preparation method, using the kettle, here are the steps you will need to follow:

1. Which coffee do we choose?

The ideal coffee has a 100% Arabica composition, medium roast and the beans must be freshly ground. In order to best savor the flavor, both the preservation method and the preparation method are very important.

To satisfy your passion for coffee and enjoy its captivating aromas and rich tastes, we invite you to explore the range of coffee beans from Espressocafe.ro – the favorite shop for coffee lovers. Here you will find a wide selection of coffee beans, ground coffee, capsules and single doses and you can choose from a variety of flavors and origins.

2. How we grind coffee

For those who love kettle-brewed coffee, the coffee grinding process is of fundamental importance. The kettle method involves finely grinding the coffee beans to extract the rich flavors and achieve the right consistency of the drink. Using a common electric coffee grinder, grind the coffee as finely as possible than the granulation of the sugar.

3. How we prepare it

Recommended quantities:

  • 160 ml of water for a cup of coffee
  • minimum 10 grams of ground coffee (2 teaspoons/for a cup)

Heat the water, measuring out the desired quantity with a cup. The kettle is placed on medium heat.

When the water has reached a high temperature (around 90 degrees), but has not yet reached the boil, add the ground coffee and mix until smooth. If necessary, you can add sugar at this time or you can add it after preparation.

It is important to add the ground coffee when the water is hot and not before, not in cold water. Furthermore, the coffee should not reach the boiling (boiling) point because it would lose the coffee aromas.

Remove the kettle from the heat when air bubbles start to appear on the edge of the kettle (when it inflates). Then let it cool for 1 minute and can be served.

You can use a strainer to separate the grounds from freshly brewed coffee.

The traditional kettle method remains the simplest method of brewing coffee.

Each preparation method offers a coffee with its own particularities and for this reason it is subjective to say which method is the best. It all comes down to comfort, preference and means.

The advantages of the kettle preparation method

Kettle coffee especially has great flavor and amazing aroma. However, these are not the only benefits of its consumption. Furthermore, drinking Turkish coffee provides the body with many valuable substances that help prevent diseases and ensure better well-being. Its many benefits include:

  • High content of caffeine – due to a large amount of this substance, coffee in the kettle increases the perceptual and physical capabilities of the body. It increases concentration and memory power and reduces the feeling of tiredness and drowsiness.
  • A higher content of compounds beneficial to the body, for example chlorogenic acids, has a positive effect on blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels. They also have anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Beneficial for the nervous system: consumption can protect against neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s or some types of cancer.
  • Stimulate the metabolic process in the body – helps maintain the figure and prevent obesity. It also has properties that inactivate free radicals that affect the aging of the skin and the entire body.

Therefore, for preparing coffee in the kettle, it is recommended to choose finely ground coffee. Arabica coffee, with medium roast, is the most suitable option, because it has a balanced taste, with subtle aromas and moderate acidity. Avoid overly roasted coffee or strong coffee, as they can become too bitter. At the same time, be sure to use fresh, quality water, and the quantity of coffee and water, as well as the brewing time, can be adjusted according to personal preferences to get the most delicious coffee.
