What is espresso coffee?
Espresso, in Italian, is the term that designates the way in which this short coffee is prepared. The espresso is extracted by rapid percolation at high pressure. We then flow hot water with an ideal pressure of 9 bar through the finely ground coffee to release all the aromatic nuances. With an espresso you will find all the flavors of a pure and full-bodied coffee, to fully appreciate its taste.
The espresso coffee thus has a beautiful dark brown color. It is covered with a lighter foam, called crema. This creamy layer takes on a nutty, even caramelized hue. The thicker and more consistent the cream, the better your espresso will be. Unlike filter coffee, espresso does not contain much caffeine because it is prepared very quickly.
Did you know? Espresso coffee serves as the basis for many hot drinks, such as latte, cappuccino or even macchiato. The espresso can be single or double. It can be prepared short or long, as you like.

Choosing the right espresso coffee
To enjoy an excellent espresso coffee, several characteristics must be taken into account. You will first have to choose a fine, specially designed ground coffee.
You will not use a ground coffee classic to prepare your espresso. The grind should be much finer than when extracting filter coffee. If the coffee powder is too coarse, your espresso will be acidic. It will lack softness and roundness and its cream will not be very present. This is what we call underextraction. When the grind is too fine, the espresso will be overly extracted and will become bitter and extremely strong.
To help you prepare the perfect espresso, we have selected for you fine grinds specially suited to the preparation of this short coffee with an intense flavour. Exceptional espresso coffees thanks to artisanal know-how
French roastery since 1928, Cafés Méo has always sought to offer you the best coffee. We consider coffee preparation a true art. This is why we take care of every stage of the preparation of our coffees.
We rigorously choose each variety and each origin of coffee to develop specific aromatic qualities. You will appreciate sometimes fruity nuances, spicier coffees or with woody and floral flavors. We select the finest lots of green coffee beans to perfectly enhance all these aromatic notes.
Our specialists then blend the origins based on their tasting qualities to create original and tasty espresso coffees. Our master roasters will transform the coffee beans to enhance them. Thanks to traditional and artisanal know-how, the coffee is roasted slowly, so as not to damage the bean. In this way we preserve all the aromas of the coffee beans. At the end of cooking we cool them in water before mixing them.
Finally, the beans are finely ground to obtain the ideal grind needed to prepare espresso. Combined with pressure extraction you will obtain the characteristic hazelnut colored espresso foam. You will rediscover all the pleasure of enjoying an Italian coffee.
To enjoy all the aromatic intensity of our espresso coffees on a daily basis, we package them in packages equipped with a degassing valve. They will thus form a barrier against oxygen. This specificity will protect the coffee from oxidation to preserve all its organoleptic qualities for 18 months. After opening it is recommended to store the espresso coffee in the refrigerator.
